Leider eines der schwächeren Werke von Jean Rollin | 24.03.2023
Meine Rezension bezieht sich auf die Blackhouse-BD-Edition des Films "The Escapees" aus dem Jahr 2017. Der 106:53 Minuten lange Film wurde 1981 gedreht und war einer der Filme von Rollin (1938-2010), der mit nur sehr wenig Budget umgesetzt werden mußte. Das sieht man ihm in jeder Minute an, da er größtenteils auf Schrottplätzen, im heruntergekommenen Seemannsmillieu oder auf billigen Parkplätzen spielt. In "Night of the Hunters" aus dem Vorjahr war es kein Problem für Rollin,

als ich am anfang schon diese szene sah: teenie klasse besucht hochsicherheitstrakt in anstalt....zufällig wird der gefährlichste gefange verlegt und auch noch durch den gang geführt , indem die klasse ist...die müssen natürlich nicht raus......NEIIIIIN.....sie bleiben im gang, sollen sich zur wand drehen...nicht gucken.....und den höchst gefährlichen killer zentimeterdicht vorbei laufen lassen. hahahaaaaa...was ein müll !!!!!

Pure cinematic poetry. No vampires! More like the world of Marcel Carne - docks and dim nightclubs and travelling theatre performers. Goes astray towards the end - introducing unnecessary sex and violence. But the very last sequence has tragic beauty. The less there is a story, the better. The disc includes a very good interview with Rollin.

Judging from the reviews on Amazon, Jean Rollin inspires either strong devotion or passionate hatred. I discovered his films a few years ago and quickly became a fan of his quirky horror. The Escapees is a project he did when he was advised to try moving away from horror films. Jean Rollin meets Eric Rohmer?! Seriously, that is what it felt like watching this one. A real departure from Rollin's usual style with characters that seem almost cut from another type of genre completely. I've given this 3 stars, but perhaps 2 1/2 would be more appropriate, however there isn't that option. I like the audacity to try something new and for this reason I gave 3. A LOOK AT THE 2015 BLU-RAY VERSION | 25.05.2015
When Redemption released Jean Rollin's Les Paumees Du Petit Matin (The Escapees) back in 2009 on DVD the disc felt a bit like of a Godsend for fans. After all, The Escapees had long been one of the hardest of Rollin's features to see, so finally having an official release was in itself a cause to celebrate. This story of two young women determined not to be locked away (by an asylum, by society, by their own fears) is universal but, because told by Rollin, it is also delightfully unique. A nice, mellow piece with all sorts of Bohemian imagery, it never quite reaches its potential, but is well worth watching.

....dann ist man bei diesem Film genau an der richtigen Adresse.
Gott sei Dank haben wir uns diesen Film nur aus der Videothek ausgeliehen. Ohne Vorahnung und ohne Vorurteile was uns erwartet. Da die Hauptrolle von Dominic Purcell gespielt wird (besonders bekannt aus der erfolgreichen Serie "Prison Break"), war ich allerdings der Meinung, dass der Film zumindest kein Flop sein würde......das ist er aber definitiv!

Wie so häufig in C-Klasse Videos tappen die Schauspieler unmotiviert durch den Set und verhalten sich absolut unlogisch und dämlich, so das man sich schon fast darüber ärgern könnte. Die Handlung ist vorhersehbar und die einzelnen Charaktere bleiben total oberflächlich. Spannend ist es allenfalls die ersten 5 Minuten am Anfang. Der Film ist totale Zeitverschwendung, genausogut könnte man 90min einem tropfenden Wasserhahn zusehen.

I liked this old movie,maybe it was the mood I was in while watching?I think it was for the raw european content back in the early 1980's or the frenchy style "everything goes" stuff(nudity no big deal?),but it was entertaining enough!The acting was mediocure at best but back in them days ,it wasn't a big deal!!Watch it for the story of a couple of mixed up girls that split from a mental instatuation and find their way to a strange ending and all the people they encounter along

an dem Film ist nicht vile neu, die Darsteller oft dümpeln herum, zu oft sieht man junge Ziegen gie nichts machen außer Schön sein, der Film ist nicht so gut, er ist auch teilweise langweilig und er bietet wenig Spannung.

Eigentlich habe ich den Film nur geholt,da ich ein fan von Dominic Purcell bin.Er ist OK.Aber ich habe mehr erwartet.Obwohl er zu den Hauptdarstellern gehört finde ich sieht man ihn zu wenig. Das Ende finde ich nicht so toll,da es meiner Meinung nach kein richtiges Ende ist.

Psychopathen werden gerne in Filmen eingesetzt. Mit solchen Typen kann man immer ordentlich auf die Kacke hauen und oft ist die Motivation des Täters ordentlich ausgefeilt. Die Entscheidung, "Escapee" auszuleihen ist wohl darin begründet, dass Dominic Purcell die Hauptrolle spielt. In Prison Break und ein paar Kinofilmen hat er seine Sache meiner Meinung nach sehr gut gemacht, zumal seine Charaktäre meist schwer zu spielen sind. Nach der Beschreibung hätte ich jedoch vielmehr einen Psychothriller erwartet. 'The Escapees' is presumably ahead of its time in exploring the underworld of exotic dancers and subversive vaudeville. However, the behaviour of the two leads who plan to escape from a mental (?) institution by way of a disused ice rink and smuggling aboard a freight ship is rather absurd - as is the shoot-out at the end and the policeman's observation that they are only children. Worth a look, but a bit of an oddity.

French director Jean Rollin has garnered a cult following for his 1970s output of softcore vampire and "living dead" films. Generally shot with the crumbling ruins of European cemeteries and castles as his backdrops, all of his films evoke a wonderful otherworldly feel for an American audience. The frequent focus on lovely lesbians (generally with fangs) doesn't hurt the visual allure of his films either. THE ESCAPEES is one of his later films, and also one of his least seen.

As a huge cult-horror fan I'm very excited that it's finally getting a release over here. Akin to 'Living Dead Girl' and 'The Night of the Hunted' and brimming with sensationalism, surrealism and seduction, as two beautiful young girls make an escape. An example of Rollin's vision for erotic poetry and a hidden gem for any fan of cult horror!!
