Being a fan of both artists, and hearing them both revisit their roots in such a unique way was a no brainer for me. I'm not a fan of tribute albums, as they're usually a letdown, but this one works for me straight through - start to finish.

Grabado a lo largo de 4 días en trayecto desde Chicago a Los Ángeles. Realizado a cuatro manos por Billy Bragg y Joe Henry al que desconocía, dos guitarras y dos voces. El disco se deja escuchar sin ser un gran disco tampoco es para no tener en cuenta.

In the thirty years I've been a Billy Bragg fan my tastes have drifted more toward folk and country blues styles so I seldom listen to his classics any more. But its hard to convince younger fans who dislike his older style that this one is totally different.
The vocals are "sweeter", less angry and more tame than his rock songs, with great old time folk style harmony, reminiscent at times of Seeger & Guthrie, Simon & Garfunkle, the Weavers, other classic groups. Guitars

The music is old and terrifically simple. The artists preform it in a very basic traditional way. If your looking for over synthesized, over sung high notes, auto-tune or drum machines this is not for you. However, if your looking for authentic American music written in the times of struggle and performed by artists who take great care to present it in a way that preserves the past, it's right here.
I enjoy the pace and the simplicity of this album, it's refreshing in an era of noise.

Not exactly what I expected, but maybe even better -- not all the songs were familiar to me so I learned from them and several were performed differently than ever I had heard them (probably more authentically) so that was a treat. It is more of a curiosity piece, however, than something I will play many times.

Schlechte Aufnahmequalität, entschuldigt mit "field recording", aber auch schlecht interpretierte Songs. Da die CD von der renommiertesten Schweizer Zeitung empfohlen wurde, habe ich sie blindlings bestellt. War ein Fehler! Superb collaboration. Simple, evocative atmospheric. Puts a new spin on the wheels of the great American railroad story. Two different but entirely complimentary voices take turns and come together to celebrate the great songs of rail, travel and travelling folk.

You can listen to this recording like you would watch a movie. It is very absorbing. I was already a huge Billy Bragg fan and not familiar with Joe Henry but I loved them together as well as the raw sounds from actual railroad stations and the song selections. Great concept and great execution. At the very moment I was writing this review, "Early Morning Rain" started playing on my local public radio station. It has never sounded better to me.
