This said it was to be a first knife. I assumed it was not very sharp. It looked like a butter knife. I got this for my grandson who is 4. He has three older brothers and they like to hunt. He wanted a knife and I thought this would work. He loved it but it is way to sharp for small child.

Wer ein scharfes Kinderschnitzmesser für Holz will, macht hier nichts falsch. Hat sich mehrfach bei meinen Kinderschnitzkursen bewährt. Selbst die Eltern sind begeistert. Nur zu empfehlen!!
Lassen sie ihre Kinder nicht mit stumpfen Schneiden arbeiten, die Verletzungsgefahr ist auf Grund des höheren Kraftaufwandes viel größer. Beaufsichtigung nicht vergessen!

Most of the time I do not need a pointed blade, rigger, sheepfoot, razel, and chisel tips work well enough for dealing with paracord and some rope. I was looking for something a little lighter. This seems to be it. My only criticism is I would like to find one with a carbon steel blade, works better than stainless with a mag rod. Ursprünglich habe ich es eigentlich für meinen kleinen (Kindergarten) gekauft, für den ist es mir aber momentan noch viel zu scharf. Als Picknick und Brotzeitmesser haben wir es jetzt schon paar mal benutzt und es funktioniert wirklich sehr gut. Auch die abgerundete Spitze ist im Vergleich zu den doch sehr spitzen Standard-Opinels viel viel besser geeignet für Brotzeit. Mahlzeit!

I LOVE Opinel. This is my 4th pocket knife. 2 were gifts for my sons but I used them, they were a size 7 like this one. I also have a size 10 carbon steel one.These are top notch.This time I bought this size 7 for me, to carve wood because they are so sharp and I didnt want a pointed one per my purposes.It's as nice and sharp and handy as expected EXCEPT on this one particular knife, the lock doesn't want to stay in place. I bought one of these for my son and my other son loved it so much he wanted one too. We have two of them now and both boys love them. It’s nice they have a rounded tip so they won’t hurt themselves. The only bad thing is that if the wood gets wet it swells and it’s hard to put the blade in and out.

.... Das Schnitzmesser welches für Kinder ist ist echt Saumäßig scharf was man diesen nicht unbedingt ansieht !!!
Trotz Beaufsichtigung durch Erwachsene schaffte es unsere Tochter(11.Jahre) sich so in den Zeigefinger zu schneiden,dass wir einen Chirurgen aufsuchen mussten.Dort musste es sogar chirugisch versorgt werden und der Finger wurde mittels Schiene ruhig gestellt für die nächsten Wochen !!!!
Gut muss ich aber bewerten das man das Messer zusammenklappen kann und sich am Messer ein Ring

The knife is lighter in weight than I was expecting because I'm used to larger knives that are all metal. The body of this one is lighter weight wood (not flimsy, just light) and the blade is thin (again, not flimsy) so it won't drag your pocket down when you carry it. Some long time ago I used my first Opinel at a picnic on a wine tasting tour of France's Loire Valley. My companion made sure I knew how to engage the safety feature on the handle before trying to cut anything--that wasn't my fingers. Now I live in a Senior Residence where we get plasticware at our dinner table. Child/elder-proof safety rounded tip too. Bring me a bifeck frites (steak and French fries) s'il vous plaît!

I've been using Opinel knives for over 50 years and just had to have one of these to add to my "collection".
Though I'm partial to carbon steel as I think it is best for these knives, I had no problem with ordering this in stainless.
It is a quality knife and very sharp out of the box..be careful in presenting it to a youngster...even with a blunt tip it could be dangerous without proper training.

I really liked that this knife is easy to hold and easy to open for a 7 year old. He loves using it and having a "big boy knife." However, after 1 week he has already managed to dent the blade in the center and lost the edge. We have been practicing using a knife by whittling wood. So, a nice knife but just don't expect it to stay sharp or last long.

I returned this. It was a gift for my 8 year old. He took excellent care of it. The bottom of the wooden handle broke off/ chipped with minimal use. Shame because I liked it otherwise. I did opt for another Opinel knife, but got the kids composite handle one with the whistle in it. I like it a lot better because it feels a lot sturdier and the blade is slightly less rounded.

This is the prefect knife for my 8yo daughter who was begging for a pocket knife. It is sharp! Although the tip is blunt, the edge is great for whittling sticks. Obviously safety and readiness depends on the individual child. We went through all the safety rules with using it and closing it up and haven't had any scrape ups yet.. that being said this knife can break skin. It is not a butter knife!

Eeehhh for my kids first knife I was wanting something a little more high quality I guess. The safety tip is nice. The handle has some play in it. The lock is kind of clumsy and although works decent is very hard for a kid to lock. Being made for kids you don't want them fumbling to lock it.
