Functional, bendy enough to prevent any (major) injuries when thrusting. Guards are tipped outwards towards the ring, making it easier to catch your sparring partner's blade with the proper movements. A good trainer from Cold Steel though better (and more expensive) trainers exist on the HEMA market.

Overall I will just say that is good for parries, that is what is meant to do at the end of the day after all, but never practice any thrusting. The dagger is not flexible enough and you might hurt your partner.

Good for what it is. Gets the job done. Has nice flex to prevent injuries and holds up against steel. The only reason I didn't give it a higher score is because It's not made of steel, I would give any synthetic trainer the same score. If you're learning rapier and dagger, or if you're just going over the dagger sections in Giganti's treatises, this is a good addition to your gear. Get two and have some fun with a friend!

I purchased this for rapier practice as an off hand, main gauche or parry dagger. It's a little too stiff to thrust with but works well to parry and draw cut. The material seems a little better than the stiff, hard plastic my last Cold Steel dagger was made of, and the blade does in fact have a little flex to it. You can't tell from the stock photo but the cross-guard is angled upward. Not just curved on the sides as you can see but at about 30º above the plane formed by the flat of the
