Book had sticky notes on every other page. Permanent marker used on most pages, hiding some words. It was a copy clearly used by a student that should not have been resold. But can be read with some annoyance, this two stars instead of one.

This is one of Shakespeare’s most subtle plays. Iago is an amazing villain, and I am always fascinated to see the play unfold around Iago’s designs. The other great tragedies (Hamlet, Lear, Macbeth) all have something supernatural and existential about them. Not Othello, though, and I think one of the most amazing things about it is how Shakespeare was able to craft such a masterpiece that depends entirely on Iago’s cunning and Othello’s psychology. I highly recommend giving it a read.I think

It has three parts to it 1)literature guide which includes context, plot overview and character analysis. 2) the play with line by line translation and analysis/prompts within it. 3) study guide which has thematic questions, in-depth answers about quotes and everything and so much more. This guide is great and its a good size and the price is so worth it as it is more affordable the standard copies. I really recommend for A-level students (like myself) and people who really want to understand

I have used the Oxford School Shakespeare version of the plays for Othello, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth, and they're definitely the best version out there for students and teachers.Included there's a contents page, a section in the beginning about the context and key aspects of the play, character list & descriptions, scene-by-scene synopsis and commentary, information about the original source, context of the Elizabethan/Jacobean England and Shakespeare himself, and at the back a

I will. I haven't read nearly as much Shakespeare as I should have by now - just Henry V, Richard III and A Midsummer Night's Dream. But coming to this, I was underwhelmed. The story-line is slight and the play unentertaining. Overall, it doesn't come close to equalling the superb Henry V.

If you buy this, buy it for Dr. Thompson's introduction. At a little over a hundred pages, it is thorough, wide ranging, thoughtful, and highly relevant to the present. Basically, it's the best possible preparation for reading a play that is profoundly racist and misogynistic. Play gets 0/5 stars. Intro gets 5/5.The in-text annotations and longer end notes are really helpful, too.

I am not sure what I feel about Shakespeare, but I enjoyed this book. It was a little ridiculous at times, but it was also funny at times. Iago's plot was so frustrating, as was Othello and his insane jealousy. This play seemed to read quickly, but I liked it much more than I had expected.

Reading and studying Shakespeare as a teenager was good...but rereading as an adult is even better. The anger and disdain I felt for Iago is so strong that it speaks to the quality of this classic literature. Prejudice... Jealousy.... And a manipulative wretch.... I guess some issues are timeless

Used this for a level English lit. Really useful translations from Shakespearean. Has quite the bit of context which is really useful. Only thing is that highlighting quotes is harder as it’s a thick bulky type of book unlike the regular Oxford School Shakespere version. But overall, great.

Othello is one of the greatest of Shakespeare's plays. Reading is no substitute for a live performance, but it certainly permits close study of the text. The Penguin edition has detailed notes and outstanding critical and performance analysis. The language of the playwright's maturity is magnificent.
