There are so many niche labels for so many niche subgenres of unusual rock offshoots that began to develop in the early 1970s beneath the surface that one can hardly keep track of them, and perhaps the challenge of labeling means that it is easy for fans of one label can lose track of bands they would like from another label despite sharing so much artistic DNA. A product of the legacy of 1960s psychedelic movement with comparisons to Pink Floyd in their Syd Barrett lineup and Captain Beefheart. Dissonance, noise, confusion and elements of psychological shaping this album has funny moments and seems to dip into the surreal and bizarre. But not one you'd play on a first date unless of course you both came across it at the same time. The echt album named after tasty French cheese is likely to be of minimal airplay use presently. How can you name it?

Quintessential Gong right from the beginning | 27.02.2020
Considering that this album was recorded at the height of the French student riots in 1968 and released in 1971, it sound as unique and fresh now as it did when I first heard it sometime in the mid to late 1970's. Yes, I'm that old (pushing 60 now) and this album is 10 years younger than that, for its release. All the elements that Gong are renowned for are here from the start and I can guarantee that there's nothing else quite like it from that dim and distant era. Give it a listen

Always loved this album. Loved Gong throughout their career (loved seeing Daevid Allen back with the band presenting Gong2032 nine years ago!), but for me, this is their real gem. Yes: the trilogy is grand. Yes: the solo Allen LPs were fine. Yes that Dashiell Hedayat LP was great - Planet Gong too! But this little peach surpasses them all, in my book. This is one of those essential purchases. I had the 59p album (it's still in the loft somewhere). It's always been one of my favourite albums. Then to my amazement I went on to pick this one up, amazement because this was music you couldn't listen to on AM or most FM. I'm sure there were probably some college radio stations who played this, just not in my neck o' the woods. I like this entire album as I did with Flying Teapot. Per apprezzare l'ascolto degli ultimissimi solchi si consiglia di disabilitare la funzione di sollevamento automatico a fine disco, pena una interruzione precoce del segnale sonoro. Quindi giradischi con funzione "manuale" per gustarsi il bel "loop" finale. Dicevo edizione curata, ma dei 4 inserti con testi e foto è presente un doppione, mancando per fortuna quello non importante relativo al quarantennale della casa discografica

J'avais la version vinyle d'époque, je viens d'acheter cette réédition et franchement la qualité musicale est bien là, contrairement aux 2 autres commentaires, il faut changer votre matos les gars. Moi j'ai une toute récente platine vinyle TEAC TN-550 avec une cellule Audio Technica Micro Line AT440MLb (Haut de Gamme) et croyez moi c'est magique avec un son crystallin d'une pureté folle. Effectivement il faut monter un peu le son, mais cela ne vaut pas une étoile du tout.

Lorsque j' ai écouté le vinyle la 1ère fois, j' ai crû à une perte de puissance de mon ampli voire une défection de ma cellule de lecture DENON !!!!!!!
Hélas, NON, après m' être empressé d' écouter un autre disque, je me suis aperçu immédiatement d' un problème de gravure........ Aucun relief, manque total de puissance !!!!!!!!!!!!! Où est la Re-masterisation !!!!!!!!!!
Inutile d' investir dans ce "produit" de piètre qualité auditive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Préférez

Real Psychedelia For Real People | 03.05.2015
Gong, in any of its manifestations, isn't for everyone, but when the Daevid Allen-founded band was really hitting its 'Pataphysical/lysergic groove, it was capable of conjuring real magic, and this collection, defined by the defiant "You Can't Kill Me" as much as it is by the absurdist hippy-dippy stuff, is peak stuff. The music is companionably trippy (having Pip Pyle on drums helps), the humor works, and the whole vibe is unique and kind of enchanting.

Am Freitag, dem 13.03.2015 wurde diese wunderbar remasterte und liebevoll gestaltete Ausgabe des ersten Albums aus dem Planet Gong Kosmos veröffentlicht.
Am Freitag, dem 13.03.2015 verabschiedete sich Daevid Allen, Gründer und Mastermind von Gong im Alter von 77 Jahren von unserem Planeten und machte sich auf die Reise zum Planeten Gong, wobei er sicher von den Pothead Pixies begleitet wird.

I've been a Gong fan since the first time I heard them. I can't say that Camembert Electrique is as good as any of the albums in the so called " Gong Trilogy. But it still has all of the same feeling as those recordings. I say get it.

An album that was originally sold for 50P by Virgin as part of a promo to get the band noticed. That was in 1974 I believe. They had already been noticed by a devoted few which regarded them as something of a cult, the Flying Teapot trilogy saw to that. Some great tracks including "And you tried so hard to get there" a lovely telling refrain, and many others.

Ich muss zugeben, Gong war mir lange Jahre nie so geheuer. Was man alles von ihnen gehört (also jetzt nicht die Musik) und gelesen hatte.
Als ich aber mal Steve Hillage ausgeliehen bekommen hatte und danach mitbekam, er war auch einige Zeit bei Gong, dachte ich mir, probier mal Gong.
Ich muss wieder zugeben, es hat was. Vor allen die Zeit bis Mitte der 70iger.
Wenn ich in meiner alten Camembert-CD (Charly Records von '96) rein sehe; den Bauernhof (?) mit sechs Gestalten (+ Kind). Junge

En matière de rock, il existe des disques intemporels. Ils auraient pu être enregistrés hier, aujourd'hui ou demain, peu importe, ils cultivent un certain classicisme de l'idiome. Et puis il y a aussi des disques qui définissent une époque et la cristallisent, l'illustrent, se révélant un parfait document de celle-ci. "Camembert Electrique" de Gong fait résolument partie de cette seconde catégorie, ce qui ne l'empêche nullement, on le verra, d'étreindre son

I bought this on advice from a friend who seemed to remember it was a good listen in the 70's. I must have missed it then and i'm almost glad I did. It is very Avant Garde, so I can only presume my mate was smoking something better than I was. It is kind of ok, very much an album of taste (you will either like it or not), some good, some not so and some indifferent. I gave it 3 stars because it might grow on me..........?

A product of the legacy of 1960s psychedelic movement with comparisons to Pink Floyd in their Syd Barrett lineup and Captain Beefheart. Dissonance, noise, confusion and elements of psychological shaping this album has funny moments and seems to dip into the surreal and bizarre. But not one you'd play on a first date unless of course you both came across it at the same time. The echt album named after tasty French cheese is likely to be of minimal airplay use presently. How can you name it?

Lorsque j' ai écouté le vinyle la 1ère fois, j' ai crû à une perte de puissance de mon ampli voire une défection de ma cellule de lecture DENON !!!!!!!
Hélas, NON, après m' être empressé d' écouter un autre disque, je me suis aperçu immédiatement d' un problème de gravure........ Aucun relief, manque total de puissance !!!!!!!!!!!!! Où est la Re-masterisation !!!!!!!!!!
Inutile d' investir dans ce "produit" de piètre qualité auditive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Préférez
